The Project

Fishing Log is a Progressive Web App (PWA) designed for fishing enthusiasts who want to keep a detailed digital journal of their sessions. The app allows users to record each fishing session with full details: location, date, weather conditions, species caught, techniques used and equipment employed. Installable directly on the phone, it accompanies the angler at the waterside, even without an internet connection.

As a web development expert, I developed this application to replace traditional fishing logbooks with a modern and practical digital tool. The goal was to allow anglers to document their sessions in a structured way and analyse their performance over time, identifying the most productive spots and optimal conditions for each species.

Challenges & Objectives

The main challenge was to create a genuinely practical mobile-first application for outdoor use, at the water's edge. The interface needed to be simple enough to quickly enter essential information about a catch, even with wet hands or gloves. Offline mode was essential since many fishing spots are in areas without network coverage.

Managing favourite spots with the ability to rate and comment on each fishing location was a key feature. Anglers needed to be able to easily find their best spots and the conditions under which they had the most success. The session history needed to offer an overview for analysing results by season, species or spot.

Anglers particularly appreciate the ability to look back on past sessions and identify patterns that lead to the best catches. Local storage guarantees long-term data longevity.

Technologies Used

The application was developed with React and TypeScript for robust and maintainable code. PWA (Progressive Web App) technology enables direct installation on the phone's home screen without going through an app store. Service Workers ensure offline operation, while local storage (localStorage/IndexedDB) guarantees data persistence directly on the angler's device.
