The Project

RBT Exam Prep is a comprehensive Progressive Web App (PWA) revision tool for the BACB RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) certification, a recognised professional qualification in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The app offers 154 interactive flashcards and over 300 quiz questions covering the entire certification curriculum. Installable directly on the phone like a native app, it allows candidates to revise at any time, even without an internet connection.

As a web development expert, I designed this application to meet the need of ABA professionals and students for a modern, accessible and effective revision tool. The project also has a dedicated presentation page that serves as a landing page for certification candidates.

Challenges & Objectives

The main challenge was to develop a comprehensive and accessible revision application for RBT certification candidates, a demanding exam requiring rigorous preparation. The app needed to cover the six competency domains of the BACB curriculum: measurement and data collection, assessment, skill acquisition, behaviour reduction, documentation and reporting, and professional conduct.

Offline mode was essential since many candidates revise in transit or in areas without reliable connectivity. Progress tracking needed to allow users to clearly visualise their strengths and weaknesses by competency domain, in order to effectively target their revision. The mobile-first interface was essential since most revision happens on smartphones, in short and repeated sessions.

Results

RBT Exam Prep has become a reference tool for BACB RBT certification candidates. The application offers a smooth and engaging revision experience, with regular usage rates demonstrating user adoption. Domain-by-domain progress tracking allows candidates to optimise their revision time by focusing on weaker areas. The offline mode and PWA installation are particularly appreciated by candidates who revise on the go. The application makes a concrete contribution to successful exam preparation.

Technologies Used

The application was developed with React, TypeScript and Vite for optimal performance and robust code. PWA (Progressive Web App) technology enables home screen installation and offline operation thanks to Service Workers and resource caching. Vite ensures fast build times and instant application loading. Local storage manages the persistence of the user's progress and statistics.
