Steam Slop Cleaner

Web tool to clean your Steam library of low-quality games

Steam Slop Cleaner — Steam library cleanup tool

The Project

Steam Slop Cleaner is a web tool designed to help PC gamers sort through their Steam library. With the accumulation of games from sales, bundles and free-to-play titles, many gamers end up with hundreds of games in their library, a significant portion of which consists of low-quality titles ("slop"). This tool automatically analyses the user's library and identifies games that don't deserve a place in their collection.

As a web development expert and gaming enthusiast, I developed this tool to address a frustration shared by millions of Steam users. The analysis is based on objective criteria: user ratings, community reviews, game metadata and other quality indicators. The dark mode interface fits seamlessly into the visual universe of the Steam platform that gamers know well.

Challenges & Objectives

The main technical challenge was to interact with Steam platform data to retrieve and analyse the user's library. The tool needed to process potentially hundreds of games quickly and efficiently, displaying results clearly with an intuitive sorting and filtering system. The criteria for detecting low-quality games needed to be relevant and transparent, so the user understands why a game is flagged.

The interface needed to be fast and responsive, as Steam users are accustomed to high-performing tools. Dark mode design was an obvious choice to fit into the gaming visual ecosystem. The tool also needed to allow results to be exported to keep a record of identified games and facilitate library cleanup.

Key Features

  • Automatic analysis of the user's Steam library
  • Detection of low-quality games based on objective criteria
  • Filtering and sorting by ratings, reviews and metadata
  • Intuitive and responsive dark mode interface
  • Analysis results export
  • Fast processing of large libraries
  • Transparent and configurable detection criteria
  • Immersive gaming design adapted to the Steam universe

Results

Steam Slop Cleaner has found its audience among PC gamers with large Steam libraries. The tool addresses a real need for sorting and organisation in a context of digital game accumulation. Users appreciate the speed of analysis and the relevance of detection criteria. The dark mode design and gaming interface contribute to a user experience consistent with the Steam universe. The tool demonstrates the ability to create high-performing web applications integrating external data sources.

Technologies Used

The application was developed with React, TypeScript and Vite for optimal performance. React provides the reactivity needed to display and filter large game lists in real time. TypeScript guarantees code robustness, essential for processing complex data from the Steam API. Vite ensures fast build times and instant application loading.
