Watch Logbook
Logbook for watch enthusiasts
The Project
Watch Logbook is a Progressive Web App (PWA) designed for watch enthusiasts who want to document and manage their watch collection with precision. Watchmaking is a world of passion and precision, and collectors need a tool that matches their exacting standards to track each piece in their collection. Watch Logbook replaces paper notebooks and spreadsheets with a modern, mobile-installable application, accessible at any time.
As a web development expert and watch enthusiast, I developed this application to offer collectors a comprehensive digital logbook. Each watch has a detailed record with its technical specifications, photos, service history and personal notes. The application accompanies the collector daily, whether documenting a new acquisition, planning a service or simply browsing the collection.
Challenges & Objectives
The main challenge was to design a tracking application that meets the exacting standards of watch enthusiasts in terms of detail and precision. The tool needed to offer detailed records per watch with all relevant technical information: brand, model, reference, movement type (automatic, quartz, manual), case and strap materials, diameter, water resistance and complications.
Service history was a critical feature, as tracking services and repairs is essential for preserving the value of a mechanical watch. Collectors needed to be able to log each service (full service, gasket replacement, polishing) with the date, service provider and cost. Data export was essential for insurance purposes and resale, requiring a structured and reliable data format.
Key Features
- PWA application installable on mobile and desktop
- Complete watch collection management
- Detailed records with exhaustive technical specifications
- Service and maintenance history per watch
- High-quality photos and personal notes
- Offline mode with secure local storage
- Data export for insurance and resale
- Elegant interface adapted to the watch world
Results
Watch Logbook offers watch enthusiasts a digital logbook worthy of their passion. The PWA combines the functional richness of a management tool with the visual elegance that the watchmaking world deserves. Collectors appreciate the ability to instantly retrieve all information on any piece in their collection, as well as the complete service history that adds value to their watches. Offline mode and local storage guarantee the availability and longevity of their data.
Technologies Used
The application was developed with React and TypeScript for robust and maintainable code. PWA (Progressive Web App) technology enables direct home screen installation and full offline operation thanks to Service Workers. Local storage (localStorage/IndexedDB) ensures secure persistence of collection data, including photos and service histories, directly on the user's device.
