The Project

Vinyl Tracker is a Progressive Web App (PWA) dedicated to music enthusiasts and vinyl record collectors. The vinyl revival is one of the most notable phenomena in the music industry in recent years, and more and more collectors are looking for a digital tool to catalogue, organise and manage their collection. Vinyl Tracker meets this need with a mobile-installable application, accessible at any time, even without an internet connection.

As a web development expert and music enthusiast, I designed this application to give collectors a tool that is both comprehensive and enjoyable to use. Adding a new record takes just seconds thanks to an optimised form, and the collection is presented visually with album artwork, making browsing one's record collection as enjoyable as flipping through the physical records.

Challenges & Objectives

The main challenge was to develop an application that integrates naturally into the daily life of vinyl collectors. The tool needed to allow easy addition of new records with complete metadata (artist, album, release year, genre, label, record condition, personal notes) and instant retrieval of any album in the collection thanks to advanced search and filtering.

Local data storage was essential to guarantee the longevity of the digital collection without depending on an external service. The app needed to work offline so collectors can consult and update their collection even at flea markets or record shops, where internet connectivity is often unreliable. The interface needed to be visually appealing to do justice to the aesthetic dimension of vinyl.

Results

Vinyl Tracker offers vinyl collectors an elegant and practical digital companion for managing their record library. The PWA stands out for its speed and reliability, working perfectly in offline mode. Collectors particularly appreciate the visual display of album artwork, which turns browsing their collection into a pleasant experience. Local storage guarantees data longevity without subscriptions or account creation, respecting the data ownership philosophy dear to collectors.

Technologies Used

The application was developed with React and TypeScript for robust and performant code. PWA (Progressive Web App) technology enables direct installation on the phone's home screen and full offline operation thanks to Service Workers. Local storage (localStorage/IndexedDB) ensures the persistence of the collection's data directly on the user's device, without requiring an external server or account creation.
